The Explore The Arch Initiative

Explore The Arch is an initiative of the Frontenac Arch Biosphere (FAB). It is guided in content, form and function by the Biosphere Trails Council, a network of many trails organizations and agencies throughout the Biosphere region. The Biosphere Trails Council is a member organization of the Ontario Trails Council.

FAB itself does not own any lands or trails: all of the trails, sites and features of this website are owned, developed or sanctioned by the network's members and the community. The Biosphere is exceptionally rich in its numbers and variety of trails and experiences. Explore The Arch networks features and trails to help build capacity for its members, and to make them known to all who wish to experience one of the world's great natural and heritage landscapes.

Explore The Arch was launched in mid-winter 2009, and will continue to be actively built and maintained for years to come. It is designed to be more than maps of trails, it is a means of not just where and how to experience the region, but to provide insight and information about history, culture, community, ecology, geology, economy and all possible facets of this incredible landscape's story.

Explore The Arch is a tool to build sustainable communities, one of the fundamental goals of the UNESCO World Biosphere Reserve programme.

All of the trails, features, supply and services on this site are owned and/or managed by agencies, organizations, businesses or the community. Each of these has the responsibility of ensuring that the information provided is accurate and current.

Maps as they appear on this site are drawn as accurately as possible, but are provided strictly for guidance and should not be relied solely upon for navigation purposes. Explore The Arch will remain primarily as a web access product, where content may be downloaded for individual use. Many of the trail areas described have individual maps and brochures which provide information in greater depth than presented here.
