Arts Competitions

Do you live, work, or play in the Biosphere?

Does the environment and heritage of this region inspire you?

The Frontenac Arch is an ancient ridge of granite joining the Canadian Shield and the Adirondack Mountains. Where the St. Lawrence River floods over the top of the Arch at the eastern end of Lake Ontario, it forms the beautiful Thousand Islands. In 2002, the Frontenac Arch area was designated as a UNESCO World Biosphere, stretching from Brockville to Gananoque, up to Westport and over to Sydenham and Harrowsmith. Biospheres support and promote sustainable development in the environment, economy, society and culture of their community.
