Explore The Arch introduces you the numerous and wonderful trails and routes of the Frontenac Arch Biosphere, but also to the character of this landscape and community. There's no better way to get to know a region so very rich in natural and cultural heritage than to walk, cycle, paddle, ski or tour across the face of the land. This site, then, is both your guide, and interpreter.
The Frontenac Arch Biosphere (FAB) does not own or manage any of the trails you'll find on this site. The hiking trails are in the capable hands of, or are cared for by organizations that have partnered with FAB and the Biosphere Trails Council to map and describe them. Members of the community have come together to lay out paddle, cycling, heritage walking and driving routes. Explore The Arch is a community effort, and a FAB program. You will find, as you explore this site, that there are frequent links out to numerous community sites for deeper detail, and to learn more of partner's roles in the community.
Explore The Arch will be continually adding more content and layers of information about other programs and features of the region. We're building an online resource for you, about the Biosphere's ecology, geology, history, climate, land use and many other realms of its character. There will also be pages about local food, an exploration from farm to fork, with Savour The Arch. As well, this region has a remarkably rich creative community, and soon this site will walk you through its arts, literature, music and theatre.
As the site develops, you will find pages of your stories and images, so that others can see the region through your eyes.
