Gould Lake Conservation Area

There were several mica mines operating near Gould Lake. The McClatchey Mine, is situated between Blue Lake and Gould Lake. A number of old pits and a large boiler may still be seen on the Mica Trail on Conservation Authority property. It was acquired by J.W. Trousdale, a prominent citizen of Sydenham, in 1901, and was mined steadily until 1912. The main shaft was over 100 feet deep, and opened out to a chamber 8 feet by 30 feet.

Gould Lake Conservation Area is 589 hectares of wilderness located in the Canadian Shield. The area has swimming, picnic areas and outhouses. Gould Lake Conservation area offers 20 km of hiking trails that cross rolling and rugged terrain, through woods and wetlands with beautiful waterfront views. To stay oriented follow the trail markers, the blue triangle arrow markers that appear along trails. The rideau trail crosses the property and is marked by the orange triangle arraow markers. Entry fee to the park is required.
