Historically, mixed farming pursuits predominated in this rural neighbourhood where the CRCA main facilities are situated. However, flooding from the Little Cataraqui River posed a deterrent causing the land to be left idle or used for rough pasture. After purchasing several parcels in the 1960's, building a dam and reservoir, flooding was controlled. The area has been transformed to a natural landscape lending itself to recreational purposes.
Little Cataraqui Creek features a 394 hectare site with areas of marsh, field and forest habitat and excellent outdoor recreation facilities. The Outdoor Centre provides a place for equipment rental, educational programming for youth and an assortment of other functions. The site maintains a natural skating rink and hosts Maple Madness every March/April. There are washrooms and picnic areas available for use. Daily entry fees apply.
