Parrott's Bay Conservation Area

In 1966, the Cataraqui Region Conservation Authority (in conjunction with the St. Lawrence Parks commission) investigated the potential value of certain recreational sites within its watershed. Included in this study was Parrott's Bay, a wetland marsh located just west of Amherstview. The property has been designated as public recreation area since 1969 by Ernestown Township Council to preclude development. In the early 1990s, the CRCA bought most of the land surrounding Parrott's Bay from Ernestown Township. The land acquisition was completed in 2006. Parrott's Bay has long been a source of passive enjoyment for canoeists, anglers, and naturalists.

Parrott's Bay Conservation Area, part of the Cataraqui Region Conservation Area, has 117 hectares (289 acres) of woods and wetlands with beautiful waterfront views. Parrott's Bay is a great place to get out and enjoy nature by. Parrott's Bay features more than 5km of Hiking and Cross Country trails across woodland, wetland and field areas. Be aware the trails are not marked and a map will be useful. There is also picnic area located near the main parking lot. Fishing is permitted in the Conservation Area in accordance with current Ministry of Natural Resources regulations. The wetlands, woods and shoreline areas provide many opportunities for wildlife viewing and nature appreciation.
