Morton to Crosby Historical Driving Tour

This area in what was the former Township of South Crosby was settled in two distinctly different periods. The fertile St Lawrence Lowlands were settled, by Americans loyal to the British Crown, after 1800 and some British Immigrants. The rocky land of the Canadian Shield was settled in the late 1840s by Irish fleeing the Potato Famine in Ireland. This driving tour crosses that divide several times and the geological change can be readily seen.

This driving tours winds northward from Morton through historic Jones Falls and continuing onto to Davies Lock and Chaffey's Lock. Along this tour we can witness some of the long standing construction feats of the Rideua Canal including blockhouses, dams, and the locks themselves. You might also consider stopping for a meal at one of the historic hotels that are still open for business. The drive finishes up a long the shore of Clear Lake ending at the Crosby Public School.
